Low Impact Building Innovation Platform
Innovate UK (previously the Technology Strategy Board) is the UK’s innovation agency, an executive non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). It funds, supports and connects innovative businesses through programmes intended to accelerate sustainable economic growth.
Innovate UK’s innovation platforms bring together the public and private sectors to work on societal challenges.
Launched in May 2008, the Low Impact Building Innovation Platform (LIBIP) is Innovate UK's innovation platform for the built environment. Between 2008 and 2015, it invested £79 million, leveraged to nearly £118 million by match funding, which they suggest supported over 800 organisations through 580 projects to develop innovative products, services and technologies with an estimated economic impact of £1.5 billion.
On 3 March 2015, Innovate UK published Future building, The Low Impact Building Innovation Platform, setting out how it would invest a further £60m from 2015 to 2019 to help integrate supply chains, capitalise on UK's leadership, mitigate import threats, develop growth sub-sectors and exploit export opportunities.
It listed its strategic priorities as:
- Digital design and engineering.
- Energy eco-systems.
- Energy management and diagnostics tools.
- High-performance materials and technologies.
